We are just basically your normal life-long animal lovers who are following their hearts in stepping out on blind faith and committing our lives to save as many horses as possible.

I’m Joey Heaton and I have worked in the Information Technology industry since 1995 for companies ranging from professional football, to multi-billion dollar software companies. Starting an equine rescue was probably the last thing in the world that I would have ever thought I would be doing. Don’t get me wrong. I have always been an animal lover, but had never had much exposure to horses. In fact, I was initially intimidated by a horse’s sheer size and I had never thought of them as anything more than a farm animal. However, miracles do happen and this one happened to have a long white mane and tail. As a self-described “germaphobe” who would gag at anything resembling horse poop, I have developed a rescuer’s heart and would walk through hell and back to end horse suffering.

SaveTheHorses was created to address the urgent need for rescue services and equine public education. We are an all-volunteer organization, operating solely on the donations given generosity of compassionate and caring people.

Thanks to your generous donations, we have been able to rescue needy horses since 1998. We are funded totally by donations and fund raising. We receive no government assistance. You are the angels who help us Save The Horses

For more than 45 years, MUST has established itself as a servant leader caring for those in need in the Marietta, Smyrna and Canton/Cherokee county communities.

Founded in 1971 by the Rev. Wayne Williams, MUST Ministries’ initial programs included a grocery bus ministries for the elderly, a youth tutoring program and outreach ministries to “alienated” young people.

Since it’s inception, MUST has fulfilled Wayne’s vision of connecting people who have a desire to help with those who need help the most.

Today, MUST encompasses more than 10,000 volunteers who are continually helping MUST Ministries achieve its goal of being Georgia’s most respected servant-leader.

Sunkissed Acres Equine Rescue

Sunkissed Acres is an Equine Rescue and Retirement facility. Our goals:

  • To rehabilitate and re-home those who are able to still be of service to others.
  • To offer a quality, safe, lifetime home for the aged and infirm.
  • To end the suffering of those whom it is deemed necessary.

Several of the horses spend their time as therapeutic riding horses while they await loving homes, as do some of our permanent residents. They enjoy their work as therapeutic partners while remaining safe with Sunkissed Acres. We have found homes for hundreds of horses over the years, we have lost others to and old age, and we have euthanized those who were beyond our help.
